"Tot Park" in Sudbury

We were at a park in Acton yesterday and I was getting just as much exercise as Rebecca as she climbed around about a foot over my head and I tried desperately to get to all the places she could fall off of before she got there and still look like This Was Fun! when a Mommy of an older kid told me about the "Tot Park" in Sudbury where all the equipment is built close to the ground and there is nowhere a child can really fall off of, all the openings are within easy Mommy reach and they even have a sandbox with sand toys and trucks. Well, I couldn't resist and Rebecca and I spent an entire hour and a half there today flexing her independence muscle. (Seriously, she barely registered that I was there for about the first 45 minutes!) She climbed all over the equipment by herself, went down the many slides MANY times by herself, met Carolyn and Keagan, drove the train, dug all over the sandbox, and had just a wonderful time. I plan to make this a weekly trip. Here's some pics:

Becca's backup plan

This morning I was in the office printing a few labels for the morning post office run. Becca decided she didn't want me in the office anymore and after about 5 minutes of saying so LOUDLY came over to the gate and looked at me very seriously. She said, "Bye bye!" and waved, then started off across the living room.

So I poked my head out of the office and said, "Bye bye. Um, where are you going?"

She shoots me a Very Disapproving Look, says, "Nonnie's House!" and keeps walking!!!

Every once in a while she checks to make sure she still has the coolest shoes in town.

Finger paints are AWESOME

Big girls don't sit on their Mommy's laps and share. They sit in their own chair with their own fries. :D

Potty Chair!

Last week Rebecca started telling us when she needed a diaper change...to the point of literally pulling us down the hallway to her changing table and trying to get the diaper off herself! On Sunday she asked me to sit on the toilet (for fun) and we decided that, young as she is, it may be time for potty training.

Bobby picked up the best potty chair ever at Target for only $16 that is brand name, starts as a sit down potty and then converts to a toilet insert with stepstool!!! As soon as he got it home we set it up in the bathroom for her and I spent NO LESS THAN 45 MINUTES sitting with her as she opened the lid, closed the lid, sat on the toilet, opened the lid, sat on the toilet, closed the lid, opened the lid, on and on with a huge grin and tons of giggles. She even clapped for herself as she sat!

The next day she discovered that sitting on the potty chair entitles you to legally possess toilet paper (a strictly forbidden item ever since she unrolled an ENTIRE roll of it through the living room, foyer and hallway)....which she took shameless advantage of for the entire rest of the day.

Her Daddy thinks I may be just SLIGHTLY more excited than Rebecca is about the whole prospect of potty training and I have to say he may be right, so I've promised to take it slow and let her train at her own pace (after all, we have plenty of time where she's not even 1 1/2 yet!) and see how it goes.

Stay tuned!
